You can also get bones for cheap or nothing at the store. Contrary to conventional wisdom, try expensive places like Central Market that aren't accustomed to such requests and will usually just give you stuff that other people turn up their noses at. Just chat up the peeps at the counter to find out when the deliveries will be and when they'll be filleting/boning them.
