final fantasy

Thank you Russ, for getting us into The Arcade Fire Friday night. I'll save everyone the boredom of saying "oh they were so good blah blah blah" because after reading blog after blog of how awesome they are live for months now, I got what I expected and I'm sure you've heard enough about it too. But, what I wasn't expecting was the opening act, solo violinist Owen Pallet (who is also in the Hidden Cameras and Les Mouches) who does this awesome set with a looping pedal. I found a video of him performing here. But what was really awesome that you don't see in the video was the duck sweater he wore onto the stage Friday night.

Also, what's even better than that is that his stage name is Final Fantasy and if you look at the Flickr photos tagged with "Final Fantasy" not only do you see pictures of Owen, but also pictures of video games and video game players.

I got the Owen Pallet experience when I went to the Vinyl Cafe concert in my town a few days ago. It was one of the most amazing musical performances I've witnessed in a long while.

I got lucky and saw Owen Pallett do an improvised, very intimate mini show in Moncton last night at an art gallery with amps and an echo thing. He was brilliant! totally talented and enthralling. If the opportunity presents itself, do not miss this guy.
